1 Priest the true healer on Thu Feb 12, 2015 6:24 pm

Priests are divine spell casters. They do not have the military training that clerics have. But they have a larger arsenal of spells. Their ability to keep the party sustained spiritually and physically is unmatched.

Prime: Wisdom
Alignment:  Any
HD: D4
Bth: as Wizard
EPP: as Wizard
Spells/day: as Wizard
Spell selection: as Cleric
Weapons: as Wizard
Armor: as Wizard

A priest may cast a special first aid on an injured person this can be done only once on that target every 24 hours. It heals the target to 0 hp prevents infection and prevents bleeding out from previous damage.

Level 1 LAY ON HANDS: A Priest can cure 2 hit points per level once per day. This ability can be used on the priest or on others, the healing can be divided among multiple recipients.

TURN UNDEAD (Wisdom): A Priest has the ability to turn, or even destroy, undead monsters. To turn undead, a cleric must declare the attempt as an attack and then make a successful wisdom attribute check. The character must display a holy symbol toward the undead and utter a prayer, chant or other invocation of the character’s deity. Turn undead is considered a special attack and takes one round. Turn undead has a maximum range of 60 feet.
Turning undead consists of channelling divine power. The ability to channel divine power is measured by the Priest’s own willpower. Accordingly, charisma, not wisdom, affects the number of undead creatures that are
turned with a successful turn undead check. In most cases, the number of undead turned will be 1d12 plus the cleric’s charisma modifier. When a cleric is five or more levels higher than the undead being turned, the
undead are instead destroyed.
Evil Priest may, instead of turning undead, control them. An evil cleric must be at least five levels higher than the hit dice of the undead sought to be controlled. Evil clerics can also turn paladins.

DIVINE HEALING: At 12th level, a Priest can call upon his deity to aid those in need of healing. Divine healing enables the character to wipe away disease and injury. It completely cures all diseases, blindness, deafness, hit
point damage and all temporary ability damage. It neutralizes poisons in the subject’s system, so that no additional damage or effects are suffered. It dispels the effects of a feeblemind spell. It cures those mental disorders caused by spells or injury to the brain. Only a single application of the ability is needed to simultaneously achieve all these effects. The ability does not remove negative levels, restore permanently drained levels or restore permanently drained ability scores. The Priest can use the ability once per week.

I welcome the all criticisms.

An idea i got from reality; Praycast: As a move action while holding the charge of a touch spell, the priest can deliver the touch attack spell he holds instantaneously to any target within 30 feet by thinking of that target's name and face. Praycasting cannot miss and does not require you to perceive the target

Broken for C&C. This is more like a 3.5+ ability

Level 1 LAY ON HANDS: A Priest can the spell first aid for free equal to his level + wisdom mod per day. This does not count as a spell use.

Pray Cast: The Priest can cast a spell on any ally within 30 Feet by concentrating on him/her. He must make a check equal to 10 + (spell level * 2). An unconscious ally must roll to resist the spell. This can not be used in conjunction with Lay on Hands.

Spells/day: as Wizard*
Spell selection: as Cleric*
Weapons: make a weapons selection similar to 1st edition cleric.
Armor: none

FIELD MEDICINE (Wisdom): A priest may administer first aid on an injured person who has fallen below 0 Hp. on a successful Wisdom Check the target is restored to 0 Hp, and is stabilized.

LAY ON HANDS: At level 1 a Priest can cure 2 hit points per level once per day. This ability can be used on the priest or on others, the healing can be divided among multiple recipients. (This should be compared with Paladin's ability of the same name and made to match).

TURN UNDEAD (Wisdom): A Priest has the ability to turn, or even destroy, undead monsters. To turn undead, a cleric must declare the attempt as an attack and then make a successful wisdom attribute check. Spells:  A priest should have it's own spell chart.  It should be comparable but not as good as a Clerics and I think that the class' spell list should be a modified version of the Clerics, devoid of many of the more offensive spells.  It should consist of healing and blessing spells exclusively.

DIVINE HEALING: At 12th level, a Priest can call upon his deity to aid those in need of healing. Divine healing enables the character to wipe away disease and injury. It completely cures all diseases, blindness, deafness, hit

I welcome the all criticisms.

My suggestions

Spells are balanced by their range and duration as well as other parameters mentioned in their descriptions. A class that can turn touch spells into ranged spells is too powerful for this purposely weak system. Again this is more suited for systems meant for more power such as 3.5.

I was giving it a bit of thought and maybe they get a cleric's spells per day but with the restricted spell list. They won't have the combat prowess of the cleric so the amount of spells won't really encroach on the Cleric's niche within a party.

But without the combat whats the point of bringing a priest. with a more resticted spell list it should be a wizards amount per day, but let talk about it more.

I believe they have a similar amount of spells per day, maybe I'm wrong... I'm not able to check at the moment.

I didn't put it in my post, because I wrote it half asleep. But I was thinking the spells should be mainly buff spells. So yeah, restricted spells list would be good.

Basically a divine powered wizard.

Word.

Priests also hold mass and accept confession.
Priests also have a flock (as they call it). Maybe this class can get 0 level followers every level that they need to feed and help.

Priests also get alter boys ....

There are also different factions within the organized religious community.

- For example the Jesuit's
- For example the Indiana Jones sect that hunt down the possessed ... Ohhh that's the exorcist movie(s).

Maybe change the classes name to signify its role.

Examples:

Medical priests
hospitaller priests or priest hospitaller.

As a character who is usually the main healer in the party.... my suggestion would be to give it more diversity. The game gets boring when your only role is healing. Maybe give it skills like a thief, but nothing like a thief. RP skills that would allow you some diversity.

Examples:

Extra lang(s)
Knowledge's - Occult, lore(s), read ancient, arcane, mundane texts, herbs

This can flesh out your toon and keep it sustainable through out the levels, cause you are sacrificing a lot be a priest that only heals.

Make it an N.P.C. only class and we have a winner.

Add:

Religious Lore(Wisdom)
Decipher Script(Intelligence)
Occult Knowledge(Wisdom)

Priests are divine spell casters. They do not have the military training that clerics have. But they have a larger arsenal of spells. Their ability to keep the party sustained spiritually and physically is unmatched.

Prime: Wisdom
Alignment: Any* (Same as deity)
HD: D4
Bth: as Wizard
EPP: as Wizard
Spells/day: as Wizard
Spell selection: as Cleric (Restricted, buff spells as DM chooses)
Weapons: as Wizard
Armor: as Wizard
Abilities: Lay on Hands, Prayer of Life, Religious Lore(Wisdom), Decipher Script(Intelligence), Occult Knowledge(Wisdom)

Level 1 Lay on Hands: A Priest can the spell first aid for free equal to his level + wisdom mod per day. This does not count as a spell use.

Prayer of Life: The priest spends 1 turn to cast a quick prayer for any ally within 30 feet who is down. If that ally is still alive, he/she is granted a con check to stabilize, but not heal. The priest can do this a number of times equal to his level + Wisdom Mod.

Religious Lore(Wisdom): Due to extensive study, the priest has extensive knowledge of the following: gods and goddesses, mythic history, ecclesiastic tradition, holy symbols, undead, etc.

Decipher Script(Intelligence): As Bard or Rogue?

Occult Knowledge(Wisdom): Knowledge of the arcane and mystical arts, and their applications
in both historical and modern society.

A successful check brings the character back to 0 Hp, though does not stabilize them. The priest can do this a number of times equal to his level + Wisdom Mod.
